Hi Bernhard,

Many thanks for your reply. Our emails must have literally crossed as I sent an
update just now the mailing list. We think it is a CPU issue. By default, when
COOT is opened from CCP4i2 it only uses 1 CPU instead of multipe in Windows 11.

FYI - I'm using CCP4-9.0.007 which contains COOT version 0.9.8.95.

Hope this helps further,
Lisa

Hello Lisa,

Sorry to hear you are having issues with the performance/speed of WinCoot on
Windows 11. Which WinCoot version are you using? You are not the only one
reporting performance issues on Windows 11 (*) although I am not sure if they
are all the same and/or related. Until very recently I didn’t have a Windows 11
computer to test myself but I have now... (so far not exposed to any WinCoot
building/compilation just testing):

I tested WinCoot 0.9.8.95&96 as well as 1.1.14 on Windows 11 and did not find
any performance issues (x)

Therefore I am unable to do more than give general troubleshooting/testing
advise for now:

* Antivirus, is it possible for you to (temporarily) disable anti-virus
software and/or use another one? I run MS defender and haven’t tried anything
else recently
* Filesystem, are all files/installation local or on network drives? Having
everything local is of course preferred esp the dictionary (which comes from
ccp4) and backup
* Issue with the pdb file(s). Or is the issue independent of the coordinates
used!?

Otherwise of course if this is reproducible please send me files (private &
confidential of course) and commands so that I can try to reproduce the issue.

Cheers,

Bernhard

(*) these come mainly from industrial users... Maybe industry is forced to
migrate to Windows 11 faster than academia 😉 or did WinCoot secretly increase
tariffs for certain users 😉 (without me knowing about it)
(x) I mainly tested several rounds of automated (animated) refinement which
worked all fine without any performance drop. But I did some manual testing esp
moving refinement atoms too.
