I appreciate those of you who have replied to my "carb ice"?
problem. The fellow that said rip off the intake and seal it up has a
good point except I have visually checked that already, which I know is
not foolproof. But if you have an intake leak it always shows up most at
idle when the engine is starving for air and there is only a small
amount of fuel going through the carb. Mine starts and idles perfectly.
At near full throttle [2300] RPM, a small air leak, if there was one,
would hardly be noticed with the large amount of air going into the
engine. Mine is a C-75 upped to an 85.
One couper said his did the same thing until he stopped using
mo-gas,which I am. Now, it is possible that 100LL could help. Here's a
question. When the air speeds up in the venturi and cools, is it the
atomization of the gas that cools it further, causing ice, or would it
do it on it,s own in the absense of fuel?
I can,t seem to find a carb ice gauge for the Stromberg carb. Does
anyone have one or know where I could get one?
I know there is an answer to this, and I,m open to any help. I,ll
try a tank of 100LL and see what happens.
Most planes can be flown in the rain with little problem, why not
the [my] coupe?
I am not being casual about this problem as I know it can be very
serious, but I think we must look past many of the stock answers and sort
this out. I,m obviously not the only one with this problem as numerous
others have told me similar stories of power loss in cruise. Most of my
flying is over rocks, water or heavy forrest. So the thought of the
little buggar laying down and playing dead takes the fun out of things.
