----[Please read http://ercoupers.com/disclaimer.htm before following any advice in this forum.]----George,
The part is referred to as the rear hinge assembly. It is located at the
rear of each wing and it has two bolt holes which are for the rear attachment
bolts. When you remove your wings, you must take out these bolts. The hinge
is a triangular shaped steel bracket that is riveted to the rear spar which
is aluminum. Moisture gets in between the steel bracket and the aluminum and
sets up an ion environment conducive to dissimilar metal corrosion. The
bracket (hinge) must be removed to inspect the area behind it and to clean
and/or repair. The other critical area that needs this same attention are
the aileron attachment brackets (hinges). At the points where the ailerons
are attached to the rear spar, there are steel plates between the attachments
and the aluminum spar. Dissimilar metal corrosion often forms there also.
