Seems like we all should use controlled airports from now on where we
would
be assured of safety. Case in point
Just this Saturday at a really big controlled airport I was ordered to
taxi
into position and hold. Which I did. Runway 10. After the runway was
cleared
I was told clear for take-off and cleared for my right turn to the south.

After rotation, about 30 feet altitude I caught out of the corner of my
left
eye, a small aerobatic biplane, I believe it was a Pitts on final to
runway
19. This is a runway that is just about 90 degrees from my runway. Never
did
hear him on the radio.
With no correction on my part there would be a midair for sure. I shoved
the
yoke foreward to about 5 feet off the deck and he setteled in right over
my
head. Now you have to know that the tower at this particular airport is
extremely buisy and when this happened you could have heard a pin drop.
Not a
sound on the radio. No one said anything. nothing but silence.....After I
made my turn I slowly picked the mike and said "you know, that was really

close" and that was all. ...........
I happen to be an FAA safety counselor at the airport and know just about
everyone so I made an appointment with my FAA safety manager to see just
how
to handle it.
For sure I filled out a NASA report...........So much for safety at
controlled airports...
