You know, you might be able to do it with a decent sized soldering gun, the AC-powered kind with the big coil. It worked for me to degauss a TV once. Watch the hot tip around the plexiglas! If you try it, make sure you slowly draw the gun away when you're finished, THEN release the trigger. Oh, keep it away from the compass!
