Have you checked your syslog? If you're getting a 4xx or 5xx from the
SMTP session, then there should be some report of the issue from
courieresmtpd in your logs. I'd expect some kind of DNS problem, but
the log should give some idea of the issue.

It started about 3 am with no restart of courier or anything. I found
a work around by replacing the file "me" with a domain that has no
accounts. On all my other machines have me=`hostname` This one now
isn't. After the change it immediately started receiving mail and no
more errors. There is no doubt in my mind that this is not the solution
but a workaround but I have no idea what the problem is or why this
works.
