"authtest balfolk" resulted in "Authentication FAILED: Operation not
permitted", but I did not pay it much attention, as this result is the same
for all aliases.

courier/locals:

localhost
h13xxxx.stratoserver.net

courier/hosteddomains/vmail:

xxx.xxx

I did not set up a me file.

/home/mailinglists/balfolk is owned by and in the group root.

I do not exactly know what might help you, as I am really new to the courier
mailserver. I set up a vmail user that handles virtual email accounts, and I
set up the respective accounts. Let me know if the anonymization of the
adresses complicates things.
