In fact, I did not edit any file in userdb. Do I have to add the user balfolk to userdb/system? authtest only prints out Auth succeeded and the information for users defined in userdb/aelfsciene.de.If by that you mean you've configured courier-authlib to use the authuserdbmodule, then that what has to be done in order to defined an account that can receive mail. And run makeuserdb, of course.I just added the balfolk-user via userdb -f, voilĂ , my mailinglist works. Thanks a lot for your help! I did not yet define a password for balfolk in userdb, should I do it? What could be happening with and without it?
You should define a password. Otherwise, if someone were to become aware of this, SMTP authentication using this userid and an empty password would succeed, granting relaying privileges to the hostile sender.
I'm not quite sure if I understood the explanatory part. When I want to set up a new mailinglist, would it be possible to use the same user account, balfolk, just by passing another home directory in the userdb -f command?
How would you expect the same email address, [email protected], used with two completely separate and different mailing list? When a message is received by [email protected], how do you expect it to wind up being distributed to the correct mailing list? If someone were to send an email address to [email protected], how would you expect them to specify which specific mailing list they wish to send their mail to?
Of course, the answer is no.
Or do I have to set up a new user account that also has an entry in /etc/passwd?
userdb has nothing to do with /etc/passwd.
Did I unterstand right: with the above written alias rules, a recipient [email protected] would be replaced by [email protected]. Given a
Given an alias definition of "root: postmaster", presuming that this aelfsciene.de domain is listed in your locals file, the answer is yes.
rule like "root: postmaster, rpfeiffer" a mail to [email protected] would result in a mail to [email protected] and [email protected], respectively?
Correct, if aelfsciene.de is listed in locals.
