I take your point. However, an excellent strategy is to not play the game 
and to listen a bit less to Mother Culture's seductive whisper in one's ear. 
Example: It is possible to reorient the "need and want" section of your 
statement above so that the want/need for ANY car is reduced or eliminated. 
Also: Non-fat, non-sugar, low salt foods are readily available in the 
produce section, organically grown. But it does take more time to utilize 
them in one's diet. And time is money, yes indeed.
