That's kind of what I was thinking  I was just not sure of the available space.

That's typical with the type of latch assembly that Honda used; spring 
loaded.  Actually, many trunk latch assemblies are designed the same 
way.  This is why I was hoping to use a connecting rod in place of the cable.
