Do you mean that you've heard that you can't use Diet Coke (or any diet soda) to clean terminals? Any carbonated beverage will work because of the carbonate used to make it "fizzy." Diet Vanilla Coke cleaned the terminals on our quite well - just make sure you have a hose handy and that you wash all of that corrosive junk off of the frame/engine immediately! Don't leave it on your concrete driveway either because it will form rust stains!

I've not used that trick for rusted nuts and bolts, but have used it to clean up battery terminals/posts and battery cables before.  I also head (and I mean this seriously) that it can't be Diet.
