-Caveat Lector-
Here's a question that, yeah I should know the answer, and yeah I could look
it up, and yeah I should remember from '74, but... "Does the President have
the authority to pardon himself?"
I'm assuming that he does not, which opens up an interesting can of worms
looking forward. Would Al Gore go along with the pardon in light of the Gerald
Ford precedent? Would Gore do it after being elected in 2000? Could Clinton
take the chance that Gore is even electable? Would President George W. Bush do
the deed? I've only heard the "P' word (pardon) come up once during the
buildup to, and aftermath of, the impeachment, and that was only in passing.
Bill Clinton, if the Republicans are as full of hatred as we've been told,
desperately needs a pardon; where is it going to come from?
BTW, I'll go on record now as predicting that Hillary will receive a pardon.
