I tried in particular "wmctrl -c :SELECT:", "wmctrl -c :ACTIVE:" and a "wmctrl -i -c 0x640000c" which all worked (I found the window's ID with xprop; the WM_CLIENT_LEADER is in simple cases the window itself). I used simple windows like xterm, xmagi and gvim.
My fault: I only tried with window ids but forgot the "-i"! Now that I fixed that, it works great, with ids and with name strings! Thank you very very much for your patch and your help!!! cu, Frank -- Dipl.-Inform. Frank Steiner Web: http://www.bio.ifi.lmu.de/~steiner/ Lehrstuhl f.
