Bars don't mean anything in terms of actual signal reception; that's just the OS trying to tell the human about the wireless connection. A former high school buddy of mine makes chips like these in Texas, & he was commenting on my Facebook page the other day about how much variance there is in wireless chips and chipsets.
So you could have full bars visible, & actually have a completely crappy wireless connection. And no, I have no idea how to troubleshoot that. If you'd like, I can ask him. Scott -- R.
