The pistol AD was in 1984, main cause being a too wide trigger shoe on a
pistol being holstered. There are normally a couple of injuries per year at
Bisley requiring hospital treatment, commonly caused by failure of a major
component of the firearm for one reason or another. To put this into context
there are 130000 hospital visits per year caused by garden canes and 2
fatalities per year caused by playing snooker! (same number of people killed
by garden hammocks). Incidentally in a disciplinary case involving an
accident caused by one of my members the NRA Chief Executive refused me
sight of the NRA accident book. Since this entailed my member being absent
from work for more than a week it becomes a notifiable accident and trade
union safety representatives have a right to see such information. Either
some people at the NRA are ignorant of aspects of the 1974 HSAWA or they
have something to be ashamed of. I think I know the answer.
