A Reflection on Today's Scripture:

In today's Gospel, Jesus talks about two things that may at first not
have anything in common, but the deeper you look the more you
discover. First fasting, second wine.

Fasting from things such as food, actions and language can all help
to discipline our body to allow the spirit within us to grow. Fasting
will start to alter our actions, thus we become transformed
gradually.

Secondly, trying to grow spiritually with our same old actions,
language and faulty habits we will not be changed. Instead, putting
on Christ and following him, we must die to ourselves to be alive
with him. Just as a tree has to be cut and fall to the forest floor
before a master craftsmen can create a fine instrument out of it, so
we too must stand before God with humility so that he can form us --
as new wine in new wineskins. Accordingly, His love will grow and
expand in our hearts, our lives.
