Needed, no, but I just started using gitk, and it's a very nice way to
summarize what's happening in the branch. It totally removes the need
for the darcs whatsnew; darcs record; lather, rinse, repeat cycle.
This is the main thing I like about GUI---the opportunity to squeeze
tons of information into a small screen region, yet allow you to
drill down with a point 'n' click.
