gphoto2 does that. you can compile without if you don't want it:

cmake -DUSE_CAMERA_SUPPORT=off

(sounds dangerous but will only disable tethering and import from PTP).

same. you can still do it from within dt btw, by importing the
/media/mountpoint thing directly as a new film roll, and then use the
`move selected images' button in the right panel in lt mode. just make
sure you remove all remaining images on the mass storage device from
dt's database before unplugging it again.
