Aha. If I start either with or without card reader dt hangs as described but if I start with the reader attached then unplug it in the middle of the hang dt comes up a second or two later. If I instead start without card reader it hangs, inserting the reader does not then break the hang but then removing it again does. Thanks :-) Rob.
