When this first happened I did a quick investigation and found that it was 
hanging in libgphoto waiting for something - sorry but this was some time ago. 
I didn't report it here as I doubt that it is a dt problem.

I must confess to never having tethered a camera to dt or even connected one 
for downloading images – it seems easier to just directly read the card.  If 
it’s relevant  my computer  hasn’t got anything attached except monitor, 
keyboard, mouse, single SATA SSD for o/s  usb card reader and LAN connection.

Not such a stupid question.
 
For me, dt hangs on startup when I have my phone plugged in. I think it 
eventually times-out but I just disconnect the phone. Once dt is up and 
running, the phone can be plugged back in.
