Newbie too, but I've always used Rapid Photo Downloader (for photo and video), as referenced earlier by Bruce. https://www.damonlynch.net/rapid/. I rename the images (and videos) based on exif date/time (including subseconds if need be). This provides a unique file name, that can be regenerated if the file is ever inadvertently renamed, which is in turn stored in directories named by date. So: 2019 -> 10-Oct -> 2019-10-02 -> 191002-181033.NEF, 191002-181207.NEF etc. Rapid Photo Downloader will create all of this structure and place the files in the right directories, once you set the templates up correctly.

Newbie alert, just started using this program.

So I finally figured out that dt does not copy files from an  SD Card (or camera) into a disk location. (I find this odd coming from a Lightroom environment). I must use a file manager to copy files to a permanent disk location, then "import" into dt. I find that awkward and I'm looking for a better solution, one that is more elegant.
