I have not actually seen the feature, it is absent in the version of darktable I use. Based on all previous mails on the topic I was more or less convinced that "deflicker" had to do with the traditional "fixing the flickering artifact caused by displaying a very sharp picture on an interlaced display". Your explanation describes something really different, which IMHO even in English could be named differently. So I asked Google. Q: Can anyone clarify if this feature actually similar to darktable's "auto exposure", applied in batch ? Feature is described as "Same functionality as in Post Deflicker module of Magic Lantern.", but one can be a reasonable user of darktable and not know anything about Magic Lantern. (Which I now discovered and looks like a really a clever hack.) ** Back to the naming issue. Even in English deflicker is only understandable by someone who already know what it means. So, if "deflicker" is definitely acceptable in English then it should somehow not be translated. It's like translating "bug". There an official translation in French but it has no actual benefit so isn't used. Who says "bogue" in real life ? If "deflicker" is not so obvious even in English then it should probably be renamed. Suggestions : "level out brightness" "smooth out brightness discrepancy" "align brightness". Zenon suggests "caler" which is good but too short. Think "Caler la luminosité" or "Aligner la luminosité". Most suggestions are much longer than deflicker and at the end of the day, I agree with you that whe UI should leave enough room more than just the word "deflicker".
