That's interesting - I didn't know that GEGL would enable that. Is that
really the plan for DT?

Also curious what could be passed back and forth. For example, would I be
able to take the image to Gimp, get the mask I desire, and then bring that
back into DT but as a /mask/ and not as an image? Also, given DT is a
"non-destructive" editor, how would DT store this info?

Conversely, if I make a mask in DT, and then send everything to Gimp, will
the mask show up in Gimp as well? DT's masking is really handy compared to
Gimp's.

I was a long time Gimp user, but reduced usage significantly once I got a
DSLR and began raw development. Having used DT for over a year now, and
recently trying to make edits in Gimp, I have to say DT's interface is much
nicer, and many tasks that are straightforward in DT are a pain in Gimp
(e.g. parametric masks that combines L and hue - no quick way in Gimp).

So to be honest, I use DT for everything, and only go into Gimp if it's
really necessary (which translates to "I'll likely only use Gimp if I think
I can make money out of my photos - not yet.") However, if the GEGL based
interaction between the two is really seamless, that would be great! I could
easily go to Gimp to do the few things that are beyond DT's scope.
