(Questions for Martin). If you offer help, would be for a one-off (to package it only this time) or for long-term maintenance (co-maintaining with Jan and me), with me sponsoring? Do you have experience packaging other Debian software? Do you think that you would be able to take the package in its current form and update it for the new version, with changes to the structure of the package (separating Engine and Data, etc)?
