I feel pretty strongly that it's a mistake to forfeit the benefits of the web ui to make the web app and desktop app exactly the same.

The point from the design proposal says:

"+ The current layout which is adapted to the desktop app is not well
suited to web conventions."

Which to makes it pretty clear that in creating a web app, we should make it work well as a web app. Since it's the same amount of work for mde, why not just make it work well the first time instead of doing a replica of the desktop app, and then repeat all that work when it becomes clear, again, that it really isn't suited for the web?

i prefer the most recent detail view design and, if all else is equal,
think we should go ahead and do it.
