This used to be the case (pre-Solaris 10). It became impossible to maintain during the Solaris 10 amd64 port because we didn't have Dev Pro^H^H^H^H^HForte^H^H^H^HSun Studio compilers for amd64 in time. ON for Nevada is built w/ Sun Studio, Solaris 10 is built w/ Studio aside from amd64, which is done w/ gcc. There is definitely software out there that compiles readily w/ gcc and reluctantly w/ anything else. We try to use Studio if we can. - Bart -- Bart Smaalders Solaris Kernel Performance barts at cyber.eng.sun.com http://blogs.sun.com/barts
