In my personal opinion I see a some issues when things like abstracts or other
rather large "content" is stored in the BibDB. This will make the database
voluminous, which is especially a topic when parts of the database are to be
stored in (and shared with) the document.


Let me explain how I'm tending to think of this:

Annotations should be stored separately from the records per se, for three reasons:

1)  they can be really lengthy in some cases (for me, pages)

2) they can often contain sensitive information (research notes) that one may not want to distribute

3) it offers more flexibility (say you want to link a note to multiple records)

I see no such problems for abstracts, and so believe they can and should be stored as part of the main record.

BTW, the above structure could lead to some interesting possiblities around syndicating bibliographic data. See, for example, this blog post of mine:

The "public" data to which Martha refers would basically be the data that you'd be willing to let the world see in this context.
