Currently for what I do in my project, it's a real pain. You have to
check every now and then if the company still exist and is listed with
an accurate adress, if it still provides OOo services on their site,
etc. It's a lot of work and very time consuming.
I do not understand that.
In whose interest is it that they are listed?

Would you believe it : some are asking to be listed but do not provide
any OOo sevices. Or put some page on OOo but they disappear at the very
bottom of the site after 2 or 3 weeks.
Most often, they provide services on several products (proprietary or
not) and don't remember about our site if they have updates on their
adress or their content.

If it is also theirs (just a wild guess ;-) ), what's wrong with an
appointment that they inform you on every change plus once a year?

My fault, I didn't put that process in place when I began the page on
the site.

Kind regards
Sophie
Hi,

I know this is a little off topic, but it isn't just the consultants list that is a little 'stale'. The same can be said for the list of CD distributors.

I did a quick review of the first 10 entries on that list ( about 2 weeks ago - sorry meant to send this to the other group and just didn't get it done yet ), with the following results:

   http://123linux.biz/openoffice.htm ; Unreachable

   http://www.aavextechnology.com/ - broken page

   http://www.access4hope.org/ - parked page

http://www.theadrive.com/index.html ; Opening page is add for new PC
with special deal on Vista bundled with MS Office 2007 ; went
through site map and found no mention of OpenOffice.org anywhere.

   http://www.alternativesoftware.org/ ; OpenOffice.org add top left of
   page. ****GOOD***

http://www.alternativ-os.com/ - link only site for vacattion plans
and hair products ( maybe hijacked without owners knwoing it? )

   http://www.amazon.com/shops/flexiety/002-8137344-1319244 ;
   OpenOffice.org adds ****GOOD****

   http://www.askabas.com/ ; parked page

   http://www.atari-source.com/~cdstore/ ; 404 Page not found error

   http://www.bestinspectors.com%20/ ; malformed URL can not load ;
once fixed site comes up - Offers resoucrces for home inspectors,
home buyers and home sellers, sells Vertical Market home inspection
software ( an MSO based platform ) ; going over their site map I
find only one reference to OpenOffice.org "Open Office is an office
suite similar to Microsoft Office. It is an alternative to MS
Office for someone on a very tight budget. Some of our Legacy
Series reports are available in an Open Office version. Open Office
does not support Visual Basic for Applications (VBA). Most of our
reports are written in VBA so they will not run under Open Office. *If you have Microsoft Office, we do not recommend that you install
   OpenOffice.".*

In other words, from the first 10 entries only 2 either have anything to do with OOo or go any where and 1 actual tells people to not use the package.

My point being that there really must be some way to check these lists, any lists, that the main site puts out to the public.

Thanks

Drew Jensen
