On April 1st, I intend to do some spring cleaning of the committee
structure, essentially doing a clean slate. I truly appreciate the work
that a ton of people have done in (and outside) this committee already,
and will welcome anyone who wants to stay on the committee.
I do sincerely hope this is not a joke and the date is purely convenient
and pure coincidence :) :) :)
I'd also like to invite any other members or committers of the
foundation to volunteer for the committee, either by replying on this
list (which is a public mailing list, FYI) or by sending me a private
reply with your ASF username.
I would love to join the committee and pledge to actively participate.
Have a look at the jump-start plan and let me know what your thoughts are.
I looked at it, and I have one (important for the jump-start) comment I
think. While I think it's a very good idea to meet in Minneapolis and have
Birds of a feather, the wording in the plan suggests more than that, so
this might require clarification.
A great way of getting the D&I committee (and the EDI initiative as a
whole) rebooted would be to have some brainstorming
sessions at the next Community over Code in Minneapolis.
I think taking into account the current travel/visa/cost limits I think
it's a bit non-inclusive on its own to reboot (i.e. kick-off) such an
initiative in-person in the middle of US, where likely a lot of people who
would like to participate will not be able to travel for multiple reasons.
I think it's fantastic to have an informal gathering of EDI-focused people
who will come there, but mostly to have a chat and beer after and yeah some
brainstorming, but I believe it would be better to have most of the
rebooting, starting and initial discussions done before that - in
offline/remote calls
Let me quickly jump in and say that the idea of a BoF session in
Minneapolis is not intended to exclude any other offline async
discussions or brainstorming that we do. The primary purpose would be
visibility for the EDI community and getting more people involved with a
physical presence, utilizing the benefits of a physical meeting.
We can and should definitely have discussions and meetings prior to
this, both on this mailing list, and hopefully through online roundtable
sessions where we can flesh out ideas and principles prior to any
physical presence at any conference.
I have listed three general ideas for getting things started, and I
welcome even more ideas with an open heart and mind. Perhaps this is a
topic that is better off separated into a "communications strategy"
document of its own? Would anyone be willing to help with that?

I’d be happy to help and stay on the committee if you'll have me.
Kind Regards,
