Just thought if creating a translation page from a given doc page could be facilitated by adding an Extension:CreatePage form that somehow (I haven't had a closer look yet, maybe TJ could?) creates the destination page with the correct pathname and directly opens it for editing? (But this is just a faint idea, maybe it's not realistic at all)

There are a couple or Extensions I've dug up or found out via suggestions...

The one you're referring to is? This one maybe?
http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Extension:Uniwiki_CreatePage

Other extensions suggested are:

http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Extension:Translate which doesn't seem to be a good fit since its focus is on translating Wiki elements not Wiki pages - although a few people have claimed it works for articles as well. It's probably worth looking into this more for the more formal translation process.

http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Extension:Proofread_Page which seems to be more for translating scanned documents not other Wiki content.

http://wikisource.org/wiki/Wikisource:DoubleWiki_Extension which nicely displays the page content in two different languages.. if they've already been translated. It does not have an edit function... something a few people have requested from the Extension author.
