Does turning off any kind of translucency of the decorations make a difference?
Is this a 64bit machine?
I doubt damage events beating the X server's rendering to the framebuffer is
the cause as even if that is happening there should never be a state where
anything is miss-colored, except for some initial garbage but I find it
unlikely that the garbage would happen to look like some miss-colored
decorations.
Server side convolution filters are used extensively for the shadows and
translucency of decorations. As this seem to be a nvidia driver specific
problem, I suspect that it's the handling of these convolution filters in their
driver that is causing issues. I doubt that nvidia is accelerating these
filters but how their driver interacts with the general software code for these
filters might be the problem.
