YES!

I couldn't agree more. That face to face contact is invaluable. It is precisely what permits cross plination of ideas between projects. It is what gave us our agreement with the Mozilla Foundation to start selling CDROMs with OOo on it. There's so much energy at these confs I think they are an invaluable component of OOo outreach.

Cheers,

Agreed, but there is a danger of them becoming insular so that linux/OSS confs are the only thing we do, Which leads to a lot of backslapping and feel good stuff. OOo/OSS confs should be about talking about *how* we spread the word rather than being the only means by which that spreading is done.

Ian and I attended a Moodle Conf. That's Open Source Software, but used by people who are very much proprietary centred. That's expanding the client base. They were very pleased to see us and in fact gave Ian centre stage at the OSS forum at the end of the conf. These sorts of confs are small in number in terms of attendees but are large in downflow effect because of the decision making power.

We must continue to support the Linux/OSS confs without doubt, but the goals in terms of marketing are different.

Cheers
Yo
