Lowering the barriers to participation is the first thing to do... The CC has to open them!

Uhm, it has. I am feeling that there are discussions here and opinions being delivered in ignorance of the actual state of things.

1. OOo has and uses wikis quite a lot. See http:// wiki.services.openoffice.org/wiki/Main_Page . Since last year, when we had a discussion on what to include on this server, many, many projects have started using the wiki at .services for their ad hoc (or other) work. It's very popular.

2. The CC is totally behind the idea of lowering the barrier for contribution; that's one reason why we use the wikis and why we have set up the CWS system; it's another why we have done the Developer Contest (for articles) and another for why we are really pushing for a mentoring program: we recognize that we need to lower the barriers to contributions.

3. We are also (at the CC) entertaining the idea of moving enduser pages to a separate server using different technology. My interest in doing this is to lower the barriers for contributions from non- developers and to make it a better site experience for endusers wanting to download OOo binaries. The rough model is something like Mozilla.org/Mozilla.com.

if you want to look at the CC archives, go here:

I hope this clarifies things...
