I've tried both Inkscape and Affinity - both are great pieces of software, but not ideal for this job, as the artboard functionality of AI is great to be able to look at all icons in a NB module at a time to ensure consistent design (and tracing is much easier/intuitive in AI).
TBH, there is far too much work here for just Eirik and I - what Jaroslav suggests, a draw-athon involving more community members would be a great idea. Many NB icons are duplicated across modules, so if we got enough people, and each person took a module containing a lot of icons that are recycled, we could blitz a big chunk of this work...
