I am advocating not to drop JDK8 as runtime for NetBeans (extended) Platform, as that decision affects NetBeans-based applications. Microchip IDE, that mining analytic stuff we had presentation a long time ago (but that still IMHO lives), and possibly others.
Unless I'm mistaken, that's the first example of software that could potentially run into problems.
Why can't we drop JDK 8 support but delay any actual code changes that require JDK 11 for one or two more releases?
If we receive a dozen or more issues due to the decision, we can quickly revert with an interim update. If we hear nothing, then perhaps the number of software developers who require both the newest NetBeans Platform and the oldest JDK LTS is zero.
