I agree with your thoughts. Except there is a lot of ocean between those events, I intent to visit FOSDEM but being located where I am NA is not a possibility.
I might be wrong, but it seems comparing apples with oranges (a danish expression) when you compare FOSDEM and apacheCON. I thought FOSDEM was open source in general and apacheCON was solely apache projects ?? Jan.
