Well, OOo2 could run fondu twice:

1) convert
     - from /System/Library/Fonts and from /Library/fonts
     - to /Applications/OpenOffice.org2.0.app/Contents/.........

     (this is currently done)

2) convert
     - from ~/Library/Fonts
     - to ~/.openoffice.org2/user/fonts

(This is currently not done. Note that initially that directory
may have to be created first)

This way system fonts are globally available and user fonts are available only to the user. I'm using this currently and it works nicely.

In fact, I was not aware that a font directory in the user's settings is used by the font detection, but if it works it definitely makes sense.

Also, I would recommend changing the user preference directory from ~/.openoffice.org2 to ~/Library/OpenOffice.org 2.0 or even better would be ~/Library/Application Support/OpenOffice.org 2.0

Yes, this was brought up several times in the past and I also agree that this would be a much better location than .openoffice.org2.

Please file the corresponding bugs.
