Hi,

Updated my proposal: http://www.murb.nl/extern/openoffice.org/websiteproposal/2.1/

Maarten...good changes...some questions/comments

* why did you put the top part in a frame? Frames are frowned on from an "accessibility" standpoint and I'm not sure why you found this necessary.

<--snipped-->

To resolve:
* Better present the seperate parts of the product: writer, draw, impress, etc.
* Better way to present localised projects (maybe use javascript to get primary browser language and place text in people's own language?)
* Maybe better menu-item-naming

Globally about all the discussion:
* My site is primarily targetted on novice end-users
* By telling users that software is opensource

and yet, this isn't mentioned at all! :/

I believe people will try
to get involved (but only when barriers are not too high)
* Next to end-users the site is targeted at other users, and has other goals than downloading and assistance. I assume these users will use the navigation bar to get what they need (users have goals, and want to reach these goal, we can only try to make it as easy as possible for users reaching their goals)
* Pages that don't function need redesign; the homepage should not 'solve' problems of other pages hosted at openoffice.org (no workarounds!)

I don't think anyone assumes that!

Pros thing about this page...
* simple, really NO clutter
* friendly, not overwhelming. New users would certainly like it I would think.

Cons
* a radical departure from what we have now...maybe too radical I don't know
* how easily can other pages be merged into this framework?
Not a quick answer without trail and error

and ps. your "About" link goes to the login page not the "About" page
