On the datasheet link that you sent (and on most others that I found),
it's 2.7-5.5V.

But on this older one:

it's 4.5-5.5V indeed... Nice! They made a new part with a wider supply
voltage without updating the P/N.

On some datasheet the 2.7V parts are described as "New" TSOP48xx.
So, either:
* make sure you order the "New" ones. The working parts that I got were
  coming from Vishay Sample Service, so they are most probably "New"
  TSOP48xx.
-or-
* try a sample of the TSOP34838 that you mentioned on your MM1
  prototype and use these if they work.

I have kept the "broken" TSOP4838 that were installed on the boards you
sent me... maybe those were only the older 4.5V parts.
