Dan, thanks for your response. I'll answer your questions as best as possible.
> Why do you think using the term race is sensitive? AFAICT we aren't using it as a hammer to beat down anyone; we are using it to identify misbehavior patterns. Sorry, but it was not my intention to make it seem like the word "race" was sensitive. I thought I addressed my concerns pretty clearly about HOW you responded. > I don't know anything about you much beyond your picture of Rick from Rick & Morty, so additional clues might be nice. Perception is reality so let me tell you how I'm perceiving this statement. Frankly, it doesn't matter who I am or what my background is. That's the entire point of the CoC, right? Mentioning a picture used on one of the social media platforms in this context is confusing? Especially since the picture is of an animated cartoon that doesn't have anything to do with racism. So I'll choose to ignore that portion of the interrogation and pretend like you're not trying to personally label me in some form by merely a picture. > I asked why do you think using the term is sensitive, and knowing that would help me and others understand more. I appreciate you trying to understand. However, just to reiterate, I do not believe the term "race" is sensitive. My problem was with how you responded and the sources you used to inform the person about said subject. When you said: *We will not be striking this term, as doing so would hide the problem that clearly exists.* This was confusing, to me, because I thought you were answering for the entire openzfs project. Please forgive my ignorance in that respect but I would politely ask that you ensure you be deliberate with the term "We" when used in a imperative statement like you did on a public mailing list. I truthfully had no idea you were speaking ONLY for the illumos project. Again, I'm not disagreeing with the subject at hand. I'm disagreeing with how you responded to some one by telling them *"Regardless of your opinion, discrimination by "race" exists, has evidence to support it, and will not be tolerated."* and you *"HIGHLY recommend this little history lesson:"* and then quoted a twitter thread as your source of truth for how to become informed on that subject. Hopefully that clears up some of your confusion.
