Since you elected to reply to the list, I elect to do the same. Just do a
search on your name and read the various threads and you will answer your
own question.

The question of ownership of domain names has already been decided in court
cases, with Network Solutions.

Plus OpenSRS has stated similiar concepts. Don't know if you are RSP or a
end user, the latter I suspect. However, in either case, this is what
OpenSRS has to say on this issue, in their End User FAQ. (Might help you to
read this document. http://www.opensrs.org/enduser_FAQ.html )

"13. Who does a registered name actually belong to, the end user or the
Registration Service Provider?
Domain names are not truly owned -- they're leased out on a first-come,
first-served basis, and remain with the initial lessee until either a) the
lessee does not renew the name, or b) a business with a trademark of the
same name demonstrates a greater claim to the name than the lessee can
demonstrate."

So it is not my opinion about who owns the domain name, it is established
fact. When you register a domain name, you acquire the exclusive right to
use that domain name during the period of registration plus a right to renew
the registration at the end of the current period. Nothing there gives you
the ownership of a domain name.

If you bought and owned the domain name when you registered it, then you
would not be required to pay a renewal fee to keep it nor would anybody else
be able to use that domain name in the future if you elected not to pay the
renewal fee.

Since there are no ownership rights involved in a domain name, but only
lease rights or rights of exclusive use for a defined period, then allowing
the tech contact to update their information on domain name records does not
violate anybody's ownership rights.

Sorry, but your opinions are also not the last word. You believe your
rights are violated if the tech contact updates his records on your domain,
many of us see if differently, as has been stated in previous relies to the
thread.
