I had the same problem the other day.
I set up two name servers, that are CNAMES to the 'real' servers.
They were ignored by everyone. I don't know where the problem stems from,
but I noticed this.
In the OpenSRS interface under ManageNameservers (manage.cgi) when
displaying the 'real' nameservers, the A record ones, they show the IP
address along with the nameserver name. Naturally enough that's a necessity.
However....
When displaying the nameserver names that are actually CNAMES for the
running nameservers, NO IP is displayed. So notihing can find them. The
systems seem to be ignoring CNAME directives.
I set the offending domains nameservers back to the A record nameservers,
and withing minutes, they were in place and responding ....
Is there something wrong there??? or is that how its supposed to be. You
cant use CNAME nameservers, and/or unless you have an A record nameserver
name in place, it wont work.
