I didn't say "for any purpose", not now, and not previously. Once again I'm
misquoted to suit the respondant. Don't put words in my mouth William.

And once again, we stray off-topic on something that we will never agree on,
because of a complete difference of ethics, opinion and philosophy. However,
I feel very strongly about this, so...

When it comes to sales and marketing, no, I don't believe it's extreme at
all. I don't *want* people phoning, emailing, or snail-mailing me junk I
don't want, and will probably never want. And if in fact I *do* want
something, I have one of the best tools available to help me to research it -
the Internet, so I don't *need* the junk either.

Opt-Out direct marketing is - once again, in my opinion - a tool of people
and companies that aren't doing their job properly, and an attempt to abuse
the naivete and innocence of the uninitiated, under-educated, and/or ignorant
public, taking their money for invariably sub-standard products and services.

The people who use DM are simply con-men with an office and a computer and/or
franking machine, and the only people who will tell you different are direct
marketers, who will tell you that it's a very succesful method of generating
revenue. Of course, the fact that it also pisses off 99% of the people who
have to suffer from it doesn't concern them.

Opt-In is a much more responsible - and invariably effective - method of
selling and marketing products.
