Now here's an interesting twist on all of this...

You are presuming to make the Opt-Out decision for this survey on behalf of
your customers, but you don't know if they do or don't want to participate
in such a study.

I'll reiterate (and I trust that someone at OpenSRS will correct me if this
is a misperception) that the survey will more than likely be conducted
"blind" by a Marketing Research firm. Such firms, as a general rule of
thumb, contact prospective participants and ask if they wish to participate
in a marketing research study on {whatever}. It is a THAT point that the
prospect can choose to opt out.

Based on my dealings with OpenSRS, I seriously doubt that the list of
prospective participants will be sourced from the list of OpenSRS domain
registrants. As far as that goes, it's probably unlikely that OpenSRS will
even provide the list of prospects; they'll define the demographic, and the
marketing research firm will come up with a list of people who match the
demographic.

When it comes to sales and marketing, no, I don't believe it's extreme at
all. I don't *want* people phoning, emailing, or snail-mailing me junk I
don't want, and will probably never want. And if in fact I *do* want
something, I have one of the best tools available to help me to research
it -
the Internet, so I don't *need* the junk either.
