ICANN does not allow you to hold a domain hostage.
If he paid for the domain, it is his. PERIOD.
If he didnt pay for hosting, that is a totally different matter.
Send his outstanding balance to a collection agency.
They will happily mess up his credit rating.
I am forced to do this all the time.
