We have had the same problem. In fact, it may even be a bit more
sinister than that (or I may simply be a moron; who knows). We have
transfered a bunch of domains with no problems (even with the whole ACK
thing). Then one day, NSI's mail servers stopped delivering mail to our mail
servers. I can get them to send mail through an outside relay (by using the
pobox.com spam trap I am writing under now for example), but whenever they
try to make an SMTP connection to our server, it just ends up timing out
(ie: they dont issue any commands).
I have taken a close look at this from the Sendmail side of things and
can find zero good reason for this. Especially since it only started to
happen about a week and half ago and I havent changed our server
software/config in about a month. No other servers that I can see out there
do this (besides the failed connection here and there and the full-open
portscans that youd expect). Id be interested in seeing if anyone else has
noticed this phenomenon. Its easy to detect. If youre running a recent
sendmail, grep your logs for 'NOQUEUE' and see if you've had any connections
listed that way from NSI.
Again, I may have just done something horribly wrong with sendmail (not
tough) and if thats the case, Ill go hide in a corner and cry as I usually
do. But on the off chance that this is some evil-empire conspiracy, I
thought Id throw it out there.
