What a pity :-( I don't think that they cut in overall sales at all.
If I can sell a client a cert for $150 and can earn $50 by that I
sure do so. Year for year. I can't do so on my own wildcard certs,
these are usually given away for free (not the cert, the use of it).
none wildcard certs are SO limited. If you go to a site without the
"www." the cert will already be recognized as not belonging to the
site just because it was issued for www.site.com Same again, if you
go to login.site.com or shop.site.com. With the current price for
wildcard certs at $500 at Thawte you don't buy a wildcard cert but
rather try to channel all your https traffic over one single domain.
