For these purposes you can just create your own CA and ask your
client download created by you root.crt and install it to browser.
It work for IE and Opera, not needed (maybe) for Netscape. After
that your customer never be annoyed by any kind of pop-ups and
confirmation boxes - it will work exactly as real certificate.
It's some kind of intranet solution, but i believe that for chat
that's enough.
