Personally, I think e-mail templates are a bad idea, in fact, I think the
registration business has moved beyond the stage of legacy e-mail
submissions (ala netsol).

The asynchronous nature of e-mail is the biggest problem. We are a .uk
registrar (independent of Tucows/OpenSRS) and the "automation" system is
the one thing I dislike about Nominet's system. We submit a request then
wait.... did they receive it? was it accepted? we must wait for a
reply... then when a reply is received, it must be parsed. Automating
the parsing on the registrar end is a much greater task then getting a
result back from a real-time API.

The only people that I can see that might like e-mail at this point in
time are small time operators that process everything manually. I suggest
these people skip the API and clients scripts and use the RWI directly.

Those will high volumes of submissions should be able to code to an API
much easier then they would be able to code an e-mail parser, IMO.

Please don't waste time on this, instead finish the projects that were
promised in Spring 2000 (i.e. pend/process flag per individual order
submitted via API, etc.)

Bill Gerrard
