I agree that it has been discussed and the OpenSRS position has been made very clear. Which is what I stated, you either accept it as a cost of doing business or you use a different Registrar that allows you the domain names back.
Doesn't do any good to complain about it here on the list. Accept it or use a different registrar. Can't agree with your statement that chargeback domains are automatically worthless. Out of the three that we have taken control, we sold two of them at ebay, recovered our expenses on one and made a nice profit on the second. The third apparently is worthless, as we did not even get the minimum $8 bid on it. :) ----- Original Message ----- From: "WebWiz" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Sent: Friday, December 07, 2001 8:50 AM Subject: Re: OpenSRS not deleting a domain name despite Non Payment > There's a legal argument against it, and it's been discussed > to death here on the list. > > (For example, here's the beginning of a LONG thread about > it from Jun of 2000: > http://www.opensrs.org/archives/discuss-list/0006/0359.html ) > > The long and short of it is that OpenSRS feels that they > don't have the ability to give control of the domain name > to the RSP due to their contractual obligations to ICANN. > > Besides, the names that *I've* had charged back were completely > worthless, and I have no particular desire to control them. > > Regards, > Eric Longman > Atl-Connect Internet Services > > +-------------------------------------------------------+ > | Atl-Connect Internet Services http://www.atlcon.net | > | 3600 Dallas Hwy Ste 230-288 770 590-0888 | > | Marietta, GA 30064-1685 [EMAIL PROTECTED] | > +-------------------------------------------------------+ > > ----- Original Message ----- > From: "Bryan Waters" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> > To: "WebWiz" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>; <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> > Sent: Friday, December 07, 2001 11:39 AM > Subject: RE: OpenSRS not deleting a domain name despite Non Payment > > > You know...I agree with the cost of doing business statement, there are > always costs like bad debt, etc involved, but if you purchase the domain > name (the $10 wholesale cost), and the customer charges back, why put the > domain on hold...why not let the RSP have the domain...after all, its been > paid for?! > > -bryanw > HalfPriceNames Domain Registry > http://www.halfpricenames.com/ > > >
